March was a month filled with incredible opportunities to connect with the community and share the impactful work of A Home For Everyone In DeKalb. As Executive Director, I am honored to advocate for our unhoused neighbors and raise awareness about the challenges they face.

Walking in Their Shoes – March 14

I met with the Leadership DeKalb Class at Frontline Response to provide a firsthand experience of what it’s like to walk in the shoes of our unhoused community members. The meeting began outdoors, where Frontline Response case managers explained their roles in supporting those in need. CEO Terry Tucker then guided the group on an insightful tour of the facility, offering a glimpse into the realities and solutions for homelessness. The Leadership DeKalb Class also had the chance to meet and hear from unhoused residents, making it a truly eye-opening experience.

Collaborating with Healthcare Professionals – March 18

Building strong partnerships is key to our mission. I met with social workers, case managers, and community health workers from Emory/Decatur Hospital to discuss how we can work together to better serve our most vulnerable populations. These collaborations help bridge gaps in care and ensure that resources are reaching those who need them most.

Engaging in Vital Conversations – March 26

I attended a discussion on Brian Goldstone’s book There Is No Place For Us (Working and Homeless in America) at the Decatur Library. Alongside board members, he engaged in a thoughtful conversation about the realities of homelessness in our country. We are especially grateful to the Decatur Library for its ongoing support, including providing a safe and comfortable space for us to distribute MARTA cards to unhoused patrons. These cards are a crucial resource, allowing individuals to access shelter, showers, and other vital services at Frontline Response.

A Day of Advocacy and Art – March 28

Board President Rob Johnson and I had the pleasure of speaking at the Decatur Rotary lunch at the DeKalb County History Center. Later that evening, we attended the powerful play How to Make a Home at First Baptist Church. With over 125 people in attendance, the performance was a moving reminder of the importance of community support and advocacy. We extend our gratitude to our partners—First Baptist Church, Partners for Home, and Out of Hand—for making this event possible.

Looking Ahead

Stay tuned for exciting news about an upcoming collaborative project between A Home For Everyone In DeKalb, Georgia Works, and the Oakhurst Center for Community. We can’t wait to share more details soon!

Thank you for your continued support as we work toward a future where everyone has a place to call home.
